With 15,000 miles of protection, Tough Guard is the ideal filter for drivers who have high mileage vehicles or push their vehicles in stop-and-go traffic, towing and extreme weather conditions. FRAM's re-engineered Synthetic-Blend filter media provides premium engine protection for your vehicle.
Features & Benefits:
SureGrip: Provides non slip surface for easier installation and removal.
Precision Relief Valve: Coil spring with glass-fiber-reinforced nylon poppet.
Media: Stronger, more durable media provides an outstanding 99% dirt-trapping efficiency. Synthetic fiber/cellulose blend increases dirt-trapping and dirt-holding capacity for higher levels of engine protection and longer filter life. Microscopic synthetic fibers create small windows that trap dirt particles without affecting oil flow.
Anti-Drainback Valve: Silicone anti-drainback valve delivers superior start-up engine protection with up to 3X the hot oil resistance.
Gasket: Internally lubricated sealing gasket for easier filter removal.
Check owner's manual for correct oil specification, viscosity, and amount. Purchase oil by year, make, and model, or under the Tools & Universal Parts tab on RockAuto.com
Wear proper protective gear (safety glasses, gloves, long sleeve shirt) to protect skin and eyes from hot oil.
Place a Drain Pan under the crankcase and carefully open drain plug to drain oil. When oil is fully drained, reinstall drain plug on the oil pan.
Position the drain pan under the oil filter. Unscrew oil filter (using a Filter Wrench, if necessary).
Clean mounting base, making sure the O-ring from the old filter is not stuck to the filter mount.
Apply film of clean oil to filter gasket.
Screw new filter on until gasket reaches base contact, then tighten filter to manufacturer specifications.
Add oil to “full” on dipstick. Idle engine for 5 minutes and check for leaks.
Shut off engine and recheck oil level after 5 minutes. Top off as necessary.
It is illegal to dispose of used oil or oil filters in a sanitary landfill or public waterway. Many towns have free hazardous waste drop-off sites, which a quick internet search will help you find.
