A clutch feeder pump is a vital component of today's highly complex Haldex AWD drivetrain systems. Its job is to engage the rear axle the moment the computer senses traction loss at the front axle. The system is designed to engage the pump for 2 seconds in 20 second intervals keeping itself constantly primed, and as a result, causing the motor brushes to wear out over time. A second cause of failure is a clogged system filter placing additional strain on the motor resulting in premature burn-out.
