- Hypalon
Pressure Hose Construction
Hypalon hose is a more advanced, higher performance hose used by GM
and Ford since 1980.
- Pro-Coated
or Terne-Coated Tube Ends
Edelmann hoses have pro-coated or terne-coated tubing ends.
- Double-Bead
Lock Crimps
A double-bead lock crimp design prevents leakage due to its solid tube-to-shell
connection.
- Mounting
Brackets
Edelmann hoses are supplied with moveable mounting brackets to aid in
hose installation.
- Heat and
Abrasion Guards
Flexible, high-temperature guards are used to protect the hose cover
from engine hot spots.
- High-Temperature
Silver Heat Guards
This special high-temperature guard is used to protect the hose cover
on late-model vehicles where the OE hose passes close to, or actually
touches the exhaust system.
- Fluid Restrictors
To ensure a quietly functioning power steering system, some OE hoses
have "built-in" restrictors.
- Switch
Sockets
Recently, OE manufacturers have incorporated switches into the power
steering pressure hose. These switches serve to either speed-up the
engine idle or cut-off a compressor.
- Banjo-End
Lock Tabs
Many late-model import vehicles that use banjo-end fittings are equipped
with "lock tabs." These tabs are designed to limit the possibility
of the hose end from loosening due to engine vibration and twist.
- Original-Style
Fittings
Edelmann couplings and fittings are manufactured with heavy-gauge metal
and are zinc-dichromate plated to resist corrosion for a longer service
life and a high-quality appearance.
Hydroboost uses the pressure of the Power Steering Pump to power the Brake Booster. This is denoted by a third port on the Power Steering Pump and hoses that connect the pump to a brake unit behind the master cylinder.
Installation Tips - Replace all power steering hoses at the same time, to prevent system contamination
- Completely flush the system with an OE approved Power Steering Fluid prior to installation (the correct type of fluid is noted on the reservoir cap or in your owner's manual). Flushing the system is critical to prevent system contamination and failure
- Install the replacement hose in reverse order of how it was removed, making sure to install any included o-rings. Lubricate the o-rings with Silicone Grease and carefully install them, to prevent damage. Make sure the hose is not touching or rubbing against any components that vibrate or give off heat
- Consider installing a Power Steering Filter on the Power Steering Return Hose to prevent system contamination and extend the life of the power steering components
